Theme Parks

Terra Mitica

Paramount’s Terra Mitica is the first real theme park in Spain. It is not an amusement Park. It offers all visitors something different: a theme park that recreates the lost civilisations of the Med: Egypt, Greece, Rome, Iberia, and the Islands. Its main rides take you back to the myths and legends of these ancient cultures with state of the art technology, special effects, animatronics and digital imagery.

The daring can experience falling from great heights on the flight of the phoenix and great speed on one of the largest wooden roller coasters in Europe.  The older visitors will enjoy the excitement and entertainment of the virtual dark rides, stories and legends told with the help of technology.  Children will enjoy mini replicas of the main rides in each area. i.e. water flume, roller coaster etc.

Shopping

For last minute needs or emergencies, there is a small supermarket (open 7 days a week) within 3 minutes in the car. Turn left out of the gates of the Las Ramblas complex and drive up the hill towards Villamartin. The supermarket is on the right immediately after Magellan’s Estate Agents.

There are also a number of small supermarkets and specialist shops at Villamartin Plaza (5 mins) and at the Los Dolses shopping centre (5 mins).

For more significant supermarket shopping, the best (in my humble opinion!) local supermarket is the Consum at La Zenia. Open Monday to Saturday and closes at 10:00pm. Here you will find everything you need, including a very full range of fresh ready prepared foods - - great things for the BBQ!

Carrefour in Torrevieja is about a fifteen minute drive north on the N332. Follow the signs for Alicante and take the Crevillente exit (just past the El Parque de las Naciones/Garden of Nations), left at the roundabout and you can’t miss Carrefour! It’s enormous and worth a browse around. Security is of ludicrous proportions, however, so don’t try and go in with a rucksack or other shopping bags or you’ll be sent off to the Left Luggage…

consum.jpg (51356 bytes) market1.jpg (66256 bytes) market2.jpg (57661 bytes)

On a Saturday morning, there is a very interesting market at Playa Flamenca (about ten minutes drive). This starts early and finishes at about 2.00pm. You will find everything here from fruit and vegetables, clothes, CD’s, homeware, local goods, gifts to cooked chickens to take away. It gets very busy indeed and seems to go on forever…

For a real shopping experience, go to either Alicante or Murcia. Both have fantastic shops including El Corte Ingles, Mango, Zara, Adolfo Dominguez and a whole range of designer outlets.

If you want to combine shopping with some time on the beach, go to Alicante, as the beach is within minutes of the town centre and is very pleasant, with some excellent restaurants along the promenade.

For a more cultural day out, try Murcia where you can wander along historic lanes, contemplate wonderful baroque architecture and have a traditional lunch in a beautiful square or in front of the truly awe-inspiring cathedral.

In both cases, we recommend that you park in the El Corte Ingles car parks, as they are easy to find - - just follow the green El Corte Ingles signs when you arrive in each city!

Pools

There are many pools on the Las Ramblas complex and where possible you should try and use the nearest one to the apartment you are staying in however it is unlikely that you will encounter any problems using any of the pools. Please observe any bathing instructions (such as No Dogs) and respect the residents of the local area with regards to noise.

Excursions & Walks

Cuevas de Canelobre (Candelabra Caves)

The little town of Busot offers its visitors the Caves of Canelobre, situated a distance of 24 kms from the city of Alicante and 40 kms from Benidorm, at a height of 700 meters on the northern side of Cabeço d'Or. The interior of the caves boasts one of the highest vaults in Spain, which looks very similar to a cathedral's.

During your visit you can admire the varied and whimsical forms that the rocks have created: candelabra, animals and many other spectacular shapes. On certain occasions the unsurpassable acoustic and atmospheric conditions of the caves are used to provide musical entertainment.

Cuevas del Canalobre is a single huge chamber 150 metres long, containing many dripstones, some of them looking like a candelabra, giving the cave its name. The cave is beautifully lit with coloured lighting to bring out the natural colours and highlight the fantastic shapes.

The chamber has excellent acoustics, so it is often used for concerts and folk festivals and a large stage has been built for such events.

cuevas1.jpg (9187 bytes) cuevas2.jpg (13629 bytes) cuevas3.jpg (15835 bytes) cuevas4.jpg (16731 bytes)

The entrance is high on the slopes of the Cabezón de Oro (Golden Head) in a dry and hot bare karst region, and the visitor has a beautiful view of the Province of Alicante and the Mediterranean. There are several paths in the area for good walking and hiking routes to enjoy the natural and unique views over the whole region.

And what better to get your strength back than to visit the local cafes and restaurants of Busot offering an exquisite range of cuisine.

Note that the cave is very popular in the summer since there are frequent coach trips from the tourist centers along the coast.

Opening times are:-

October to June - 11.00 – 17.50

Easter Week  -  10.30 – 19.50

July – September – 10.30 – 19.50

Closed Christmas Day and January 1st.

Isla de Tabarca (Island of Tabarca)

The guitar shaped Island de Tabarca is 2 km long and lies about eleven miles off the coast, south of  Alicante.  The total length of the island is 1800m and the width is no more than 450m at its widest point.

It is a fascinating place to visit during  your holiday.  The numerous little bays boast perfectly clear water.  In addition to the high-quality water, the island also offers a number of exquisite restaurants. Since there are no cars on the island, it still a relatively untouched island where you can relax – almost like travelling back in time!

The history of Tabarca is very curious:  the earliest writings about the island are attributed to the Greek historians Strabo and Ptolemy and it is reputed to be the island upon which St Paul disembarked, giving his name to the original settlement established here.

tabarca1.jpg (43232 bytes) tabarca2.jpg (40817 bytes) tabarca3.jpg (29053 bytes) tabarca4.jpg (52580 bytes) tabarca5.jpg (85519 bytes)

In the middle ages, it became a refuge for Berber pirates.  In order to drive them away and finally banish them, Carlos III fortified the island in 1760. In 1768, he established a village, which initially consisted of 600 Genoan fishermen.  These were prisoners Carlos had paid to have set free from the Tunisian port of “Tabarka”, near Algeria and this gave birth to the island’s new name.  This is the reason why Italian names like Parodi, Ruso or Chacopino are still common on the island today. The whole area is enclosed by the city wall, which was proclaimed a national monument in 1964.

The historical relics are also worth a visit, such as the entrance gates, the Torre de San José, a building which was constructed in a pyramid shape and which was in former times used as a prison, and the church of San Pedro and San Pablo (1779).

The former house of the governor is also a remarkable building.  Apart from anything else because it was converted to the first and only existing hotel on the island.  The total number of inhabitants does not exceed 40.  If you want to spend a night on this quiet island, you can book a room in the hotel on  +34 965 114 260.

There is a narrow footpath leading around the whole island. Walking along this path, you can indulge in a magnificent view of the coast. You can also visit the stone cave "Llop Mari", also an ideal place to watch water birds and fishes.

A protected sea park surrounds the island, the home of many types of fish and water turtles.

There is also a small beach with fine sand on Tabarca – only about 250 m long and 25 m wide!

You can get to the Isla de Tabarca by boat either from Alicante, Santa Pola or Torrevieja.  The boats run daily.  The fastest boat takes only 45 min.

Parque Natural de Sierra Espuña

About an hour’s drive from Las Ramblas, south west of  Murcia, you can visit the beautiful mountain park of the Sierra de Espuña.

If you don't like driving round sharp hairpin bends, with shear cliff faces along the edge of the road, this one is probably not for you!  The park,  in the Sierra de Espuña mountain range,  is almost completely forested with pine trees.  This is the place to see wild life in its truly natural environment, especially huge birds of prey, circling overhead.

This is a great place for a stroll with your camera, or for longer walks along the ravines and valleys for the serious walkers and hikers.

The park rises to over 5,200 feet in places.  Look for eagles, hawks and kestrels above you.  You may also see wild boars, wild cats, white squirrels, snakes and salamanders.

A few roads cross the park, between the various picnic areas.  There is also a Visitor Centre and restaurant (on a busy day, the restaurant is packed, so take plenty of food, snacks and drink with you).

Embalse de La Pedrera

A large reservoir near the village of Torremendo, just north west of San Miguel de Salinas.  This is only about 15 minutes drive from Las Ramblas.

Typical spanish wetlands all round its banks with salt cedar, reeds and rushes. With no towns actually on the lakeside, it is a haven for nesting birds and a grat place for walking.  The only other people you will see are Spanish families picnicking and fishing!

Sierra de Orihuela

Cliffs rising out of pine forests near Orihuela (to the northwest) near Santomera in Murcia province.  The limestone crags and faults are an impressive site and ideal for climbing.  Drive through the pine plantations, round hairpin bends.  Stop and walk some of the paths, some of which are quite challenging!  Take a picnic, a beautiful place to get away from the heat of the coast.

Highly recommended for rock climbing are la Pared Negra, la Pared frontal and el Triangulo Rojo.

El Palmeral

This is an area of palm and date tree orchards, near Orihuela.

Situated in the north east quarter of Orihuela, near San Anton, it is of Islamic origin.

Date trees grow on the banks and along the paths and sides of the canals.  Walk through from el Collado del Oriolet or cross country through the palm tree orchards.

Orihuela is about a 25 minute drive from Las Ramblas.  Orihuela is a great place to stop and walk around in its own right.

Soto del Molino de la Ciudad

An area of woods and wetlands, in the village of the same name.

In the village of Soto del Molino de la Ciudad, in the middle of orchards, a beautiful area of cedar, black polar and pine trees, plus a large wetland area of dense cane thickets and rushes, with abundant wildlife and birds.

See the old watermill alongside the canal over the old stone bridge.

You get there via the Camino de Enmedio or the service road of the travase Tajo-Segura, which is the path along the canal running through Las Ramblas!  A few miles west of Orihuela – this is about a 25 minute drive from Las Ramblas.

Parque Natural el Valle

This is a steep wooded mountain area, with fantastic views over Murcia and the valley. Rising abruptly to about 2000 feet in the Carrascoy Mountain Range, this is an ideal spot to drive and walk.

Near the top is the Sanctuario de la Fuensanta (a church) and restaurant/bar, from where you get a panoramic view over the whole valley. With spectacular cliffs and precipices plus pine tree glades, don't forget to take your camera!

There are marked routes for walking and hiking, picnic areas, campsite and lodges.

There are archaeological sites from the Bronze Age, Roman, Moorish and Spanish eras, including the ruins of a small castle to explore.

Sierra de Escalona

A vast area of forest, just inland from Campoamor – just 15 minutes from Las Ramblas!

Although at low altitude and close to the coast, the forest is still home to many species of bird, including birds of prey,  and mammals. The trees are mainly pine, arbutus and oaks.

Walk through the many ravines and glades around La Vereda de la Sierra de Escalona, through to el Puerto de Rebate.

Drive along the A-V-3011, A-V-3501 or A-354.

El Agudo - Cuerda de La Murada

A "Nature Area" between the villages of Barbarroja and La Murada about 25 minutes drive from Las Ramblas.

This is a fascinating, rugged, mountainside with ravines which have been carved out by rivers since time began.

This is an area of  protected pine woodlands, with an abundance of wildlife and typical forest birds.

To find it, drive to Orihuela, then, a few miles north of Orihuela, take the local road from La Murada to Los Vives or go on foot via the Colada del Camino del Agudo.

Mar Menor

The Mar Menor (little sea) is the inland sea separated from the Mediterranean by La Manga (the sleeve) del Mar Menor, or what is better known as the La Manga strip. The north end of the Mar Menor is about 15 minutes drive from Las Ramblas at San Pedro del Pinotar on the N332.

The 22km long La Manga strip, only adjoining the mainland at its southern tip, creates the salt-water lagoon.

marmenor.jpg (58338 bytes) marmenor2.jpg (66220 bytes) marmenor3.jpg (52892 bytes)

Both sides of the La Manga strip have something to offer.  The Mediterranean side has magnificent sandy beaches and the Mar Menor side is reputed for its warm, shallow waters that are ideal for children.  During the summer months there are various water sports available at many different locations along the strip,  including windsurfing, water-skiing, jet skiing, sailing and  pedalos.  Also nearby is the world famous La Manga Club resort, where you can indulge in a multitude of sporting activities, the most popular being golf, followed by tennis.

marmenor5.jpg (20524 bytes) marmenor6.jpg (23727 bytes) marmenor7.jpg (29693 bytes)

Nightlife is prevalent in parts of the strip in the summer months,  with a good collection of restaurants, bars and casinos. Large hotels and apartment complexes also offer a variety of evening entertainment, mainly during the summer season.

Los Alcazares is situated on the western shore of the Mar Menor.  The mineral rich waters of the Mar Menor are renowned for their health-giving properties and the town still has thermal baths, which have existed since Roman times.

Eating Out

There is a vast selection of restaurants in the area, ranging from those serving international cuisine to more traditional Spanish restaurants.

We have listed some of the favourites here, but, please remember this is just a very small selection of what is on offer!  Hopefully it will be enough to get you started! We really are spoiled for choice in our area – you will be sure to find many to suit your taste and budget…

One thing to bear in mind, though, is that meal times do differ in Spain.  This does not mean that you cannot eat lunch at midday and dinner at 7.00pm, but you may not find many locals around you or the restaurants may feel slightly empty!  Traditionally, lunch is taken at around 3.00pm (so you can be ready for the shops opening for the afternoon at 5.00pm!) and dinner is most often eaten around 10.00pm

Las Ramblas Golf Club - Clubhouse

There are plans to build a large new Clubhouse and Hotel on the Las Ramblas golf complex in the near future to rival the excellent facilities available at Real Campoamor Golf Club.  Currently, there is a temporary bar and restaurant – and, while this is not glamorous, it serves good food, has a log fire in the winter and a sunny terrace overlooking the fairway in the summer – and it is within walking distance of most properties on Las Ramblas.

lasramblasclub1.jpg (72229 bytes) lasramblasclub2.jpg (57354 bytes) lasramblasclub3.jpg (61274 bytes)

You can eat anything here from tapas and sandwiches through to a full menu of the day (menu del dia).  Currently open until dusk.  Opens later in the summer months.

Campoamor Golf Club – Clubhouse

During the day, a great place for lunch is the Clubhouse at Real Campoamor Golf Complex.  There are great views over the area as far as the Mar Menor.  You could even walk here from Las Ramblas, if you are feeling energetic! The food ranges from sandwiches and salads, to steaks and other more traditional dishes.  There is waiter service at your table.

During the day you are able to wear shorts and casual dress (although they don’t like men wearing sleeveless tops).  If you go in the evening, people tend to dress smarter. There is a large terrace here and also indoor dining in the elegant clubhouse.

campoamor_club1.jpg (80238 bytes) campoamor_club2.jpg (71221 bytes) campoamor_club3.jpg (87268 bytes) campoamor_club4.jpg (95297 bytes)

Directions: Go out of Las Ramblas, and turn left.  Turn immediately left into Campoamor Golf Club and turn left at the first roundabout.  Go up the hill and the hotel and clubhouse is on your right.  Plenty of parking. 5 minutes drive.

El Portalon

Tel : 96 532 28 82 or 96 532 28 83

Only 3 minutes drive from Las Ramblas, this restaurant only opened in November 2003 and is one of the best in the area.  If you don’t go anywhere else, do try this one.  You won’t regret it!

The restaurant is situated on the ground floor of a private, purpose built villa on a country lane.  It is surrounded by a high hall and beautiful gardens with fountains.  In the summer there is dining on the extensive terrace area.

elportalon2.jpg (46183 bytes)

elportalon3.jpg (54625 bytes)

elportalon.jpg (37035 bytes)

elportalon4.jpg (54858 bytes) elportalon5.jpg (47308 bytes)

This is a very elegant restaurant and people tend to dress up smartly, but the atmosphere is welcoming and there is no problem at all with children – and they will readily supply high chairs if requested.

The interior is beautiful and the food and service are superb.  Best time to eat would be about 9.30pm – 10.00pm if you want the atmosphere. Many Spanish people frequent this restaurant. It is very popular, so you need to book, but they do speak English.

Directions: Go out of Las Ramblas and turn right, up the hill. You will see a strange white house with turrets on the left and immediately after this is a large new villa with a wall around.  This is the restaurant.  There is plenty of parking outside.

Las Cuevas – San Miguel de Salinas

Tel : 966 723 432

Some 15 minutes drive from Las Ramblas, this restaurant, meaning “The Caves” is in an old cave house in St Miguel de Salinas.   The ambience in this restaurant is fantastic – the interior consists of many individually furnished original “cave” rooms, each containing one or two tables.  If you are a group six to eight people, you may be lucky enough to get a room to yourself! (If you do get the larger rear room you may find it amusing to ask the waitress to open the window! - Try it and see!)

The food is excellent and very traditional.  This is a very Spanish restaurant, so you may wish to take your phrase book! The owners are very friendly and may even show you around the cave house and explain its history if you ask…

lascuevas1.jpg (78875 bytes) lascuevas2.jpg (64039 bytes) lascuevas3.jpg (62038 bytes)

Directions: Exit Las Ramblas and turn left.  Turn into the Real Campoamor Golf Course and turn left at the first roundabout, heading towards the clubhouse.  Turn right at the small roundabout just before the clubhouse (do not turn right earlier at the sign saying St Miguel de Salinas, as you can’t get through that way) and follow the road until the exit to the golf course.  Turn right at the end and follow this road, which will eventually bring you into St Miguel.  When you enter St Miguel, take the first road on the right; turn left at the end and then almost immediately right.  Then take the first left and the restaurant is set back on the right with a car park in front of it.

Restaurante de Rebate

Great restaurant in a superb hilltop setting, serving excellent Spanish and international food.

The restaurant is set in extensive grounds in the hilltop village of Rebate, some 20 minutes drive from Las Ramblas.  The restaurant itself is furnished in very traditional style and there is an enormous terrace with fantastic views over the countryside.  At night everything is candlelit and there is a great atmosphere. There is an old church within the grounds and the owners keep many birds, including ostriches (they cook some dishes with the eggs) and you can walk around the grounds during the day. Once again, this is a popular restaurant, so it is advisable to book.

rebate.jpg (55775 bytes)

Directions: Take the road to St Miguel de Salinas, but, just before you come into St Miguel, you will see a left turn sign-posted “Rebate”.  Turn left here and follow the road for about 4 miles (around many tight bends) and you will eventually come to the village and the restaurant is sign-posted on your right. (A quick way to St Miguel de Salinas is to go through the Campoamor Golf Complex until the roundabout by the Clubhouse – do not turn right beforehand for St Miguel as the exit is barred – and turn right and follow the signs.  At the exit of the Golf Complex, turn right and St Miguel is straight on.  The sign-post for Rebate will be on your left, just before you get into the town.) Fortunately, there is a way down which is longer, but on faster roads.  Come out of the restaurant and turn right and you will see signs!!

El Muelle (Torrevieja)

Tel: 96 570 51 28

El Muelle is situated about half way along the pedestrianised sea-front promenade (paseo) in the centre of Torreveija. In the summer there is a large terrace outside and a big air conditioned dining room inside.  From both there are excellent views out to sea.

This is the place to sit and eat and watch the world go by….  During the day and especially in the evening time, there is a constant stream of people walking along the promenade. This is an Italian restaurant and the food is very good indeed.

elmuelle1.jpg (56808 bytes)

elmuelle2.jpg (44200 bytes)

If you want to book, the number is 96 570 51 28.  However, it is a large restaurant, so it is often possible to request a table as you walk past and, if one is not available immediately, they will ask you to return in an hour.  There is plenty to do and see in the meantime!

Torrevieja is much nicer than everyone thinks! It is an especially nice place to stroll at night along the sea front before eating.  There is an ethnic  market every afternoon which stays open until about 11pm each night and a pedestrian promenade which literally goes on for miles. Contrary to popular opinion, which is that it is a very English city, you probably will not see many English people in the centre of Torrevieja, as it is a predominantly Spanish place, even though there are many English and other foreign residents living in its suburbs.

From about 9.00pm, the traditional promenading of local residents and tourists along the “paseo” (sea-front walk) begins and continues until the early hours of the morning – particularly on a Sunday.  You will find young people, families with young children and older people all strolling up and down and enjoying the relative coolness of the evening… For the best atmosphere, try not to eat before about 10.00pm!

Directions: Take the N332 (direction Alicante/Torrevieja). Take the exit “Torrevieja Sur” and keep heading along the dual carriageway.  Eventually, you will see the port (Puerto) signposted to the right and take this road and look for an underground car park on the right.  Test your driving ability by going down the down ramp into the car park!  (If you go too far, there is another car park by the Marina)  Come out and walk towards the sea, though the market.  Turn left at the end of the market along the seafront promenade. El Muelle restaurant is five or ten minutes walk along on the left.

Everything at The Real India is painstakingly created.   From the coal-filed Tandoor’s (Clay Oven’s) specially shipped from India to the Anglo-Indian ambience of the luxurious spacious seating amidst delicately appointed greenery in rich colours of Burgundy and Cream,  a mixture of soft Indian & Western music,   The Real India exudes a glow of warmth to every Guest.

The Menu is vast yet very simple.   Choose the type of meat,  seafood or vegetarian meal and then select a dish at the spice-level nearest to your taste-buds.   Each dish is created to perfection and on order.   And it is exactly this quality of Gourmet Cuisine that sets The Real India apart from the embossed wall-paper and greasy eateries that line the Streets of Blighty!

The Real India is not your average,  run-of-the-mill “curry house”.   A Venue worth dressing-up for and making it an evening to remember!

Directions: Exit Las Ramblas and turn left.  Go up the hill past Campoamor Golf Course on the left hand side and take the first turning on the right - - this is a small road with scrubland on both sides.  Follow this road up the hill and round the bend to the left.  Keep going, into the residential area, and turn left at the T-Junction.  Go to the end of this residential street and turn left.  At the end of the road you will come to the Rioja Commercial Centre.  Turn right here and the Los Dolces Centre is on your right.  The Real India is on the 2nd floor.

Casa Carmelina

This is another Italian restaurant – but one with a difference!  It is located in great building, set by itself, in the middle of a large square in a peaceful residential area.  At night, the pathway along which you approach the restaurant is lit by flaming torches - - and the décor inside is extremely stylish.

The Italian family who own this restaurant (who speak Spanish, English and German as well as Italian!) initially set up a restaurant of the same name in Murcia, just behind the cathedral.  This is still there and is also worth a visit – ask them for a card.

The mother is the chef – and the food is of exceptionally good quality – specialising in steaks and veal dishes in particular.  Of course, there are many home made pasta dishes too.

You will not be rushed here, perfect if you are planning on making an evening of your meal.

Directions: Exit Las Ramblas and turn left.  Go up the hill past Campoamor Golf Course on the left hand side and take the first turning on the right - - this is a small road with scrubland on both sides.  Follow this road up the hill and round the bend to the left.  Turn right here into a residential street and follow the road round to the left, crossing the river.  At the end of the road, turn right at the Los Dolces Commercial Centre.  Go to the mini-roundabout by the Super Valu supermarket and turn left.  Drive down this road towards Villamartin and you will see a sign on the right saying “Valencias”.  Turn into here and you will come into a large residential square.  The restaurant is in the centre of the Square – you can’t miss it!

Puccini’s

This is a more traditional (and cheaper!) Italian restaurant situated at Campoamor – about 10 minutes drive from Las Ramblas. Tables outside in the summer and also a large indoor room, decorated in a very modern style – lots of stainless steel and glass.  The kitchen is visible beyond a glass panel at the back.

puccini.jpg (46522 bytes)

Typical Italian restaurant much like Pizza Express in the UK – very lively, quite noisy, friendly service and typical Italian pizzas and pasta dishes. You can also order take-away pizza from here and have a drink at the bar while you are waiting. There are a number of bars either side of the restaurant where you can have a drink before or after your meal.

Directions: Exit Las Ramblas and turn right up the hill.  Follow this road right to the end, passing El Portalon restaurant on your left and the garden centres.  At the end, with the Brico Todo hardware shop and the Mexican restaurant on your right, go straight over the junction (sign posted Alicante/Torrevieja) but do NOT join the N332.  Instead turn towards your left and you will see a road leading at an angle towards the sea.  There are bars and restaurants on the left.  Puccini’s is a couple of 100m on your left.  Plenty of parking outside.

La Frontera

Tel : 965 321 616

This is a great tex-mex restaurant, situated about 10 minutes drive from Las Ramblas. Very rustic in style, there are dining areas both inside and out. Friendly and lively.

Directions: Exit Las Ramblas and turn right up the hill.  Follow this road right to the end, passing El Portalon restaurant on your left and the garden centres.  At the end of this road, you will see Brico Todo hardware shop on your right.  The restaurant is immediately after this on your right.

El Meson

This typical Spanish restaurant is about 10 minutes drive from Las Ramblas. Large outside dining area in the summer months, or you can eat inside.  Food ranges from tapas to traditional dishes such as paellas and all sorts of roasted meat dishes.  Good selection of wine.

This is a very traditional restaurant and caters for many locals.  Don’t be surprised if the television is on in the corner of the dining room!

Directions: Exit Las Ramblas and turn right up the hill.  Follow this road right to the end, passing El Portalon restaurant on your left and the garden centres.  At the end of this road, you will see Brico Todo hardware shop on your right.  Go straight ahead and then turn right onto the small road.  The restaurant is on the corner.

La Finca de Eduardo

Situated about 7 minutes drive from Las Ramblas, this is not the cheapest of restaurants,  but it can be fun for a night out. The restaurant is in a large walled garden.  There is a swimming pool, bar area and outside seating with benches formed around palm trees.  Interesting lighting effects and lots of atmosphere.

You start with a drink or two in the garden and are then called when your table is ready.  The dining tables are under cover in an open sided building to the side and all over look the garden. The food is very good indeed – international in style.

People tend to dress up smartly here and stay for the whole evening. There are often entertainers (of varying quality) who start singing about 10pm. It is usually necessary to make a reservation.

Directions: Exit Las Ramblas and turn right up the hill.  Follow this road right to the end, passing El Portalon restaurant on your left and the garden centre on your right.  Just before the garden centre on your left, you will see a sign for La Finca de Eduardo.  Turn left here, down the small road and the restaurant is on your left.

Eduardo’s Restaurant

Tel : 630 759 514 or 686 607 951 (daytime) and  966 765 148 (evenings)

This is the original Eduardo’s restaurant, situated within Villamartin Plaza, about 10 minutes drive from Las Ramblas. The food is excellent and international in style, but there are a lot of English dishes, including roasts.

The restaurant is elegantly decorated and usually has musical entertainment. This is a predominantly English restaurant and all the staff are English.  Don’t ask for paella…

Very popular restaurant with both indoor and outdoor dining in the summer.  There is always a selection of traditional roast meals at Sunday lunchtime. Advisable to book in advance.

Drive down this road into Villamartin.  You will cross the entrance to the golf course and will see the Villamartin Plaza on the left hand side.  There is a car park just before it on your left.  Eduardo’s is on the first floor to your right as you go in.  On the ground floor there is yet another Eduardo’s restaurant, but this is an Italian one.

Villamartin Plaza

There is a whole selection of bars and restaurants in Villamartin Plaza, situated about 10 minutes drive from Las Ramblas.

These range from excellent restaurants such as Eduardo’s and Fairway’s to smaller restaurants where you can get a snack or an all-day breakfast. There are many bars here, most with a sporting theme!  This is the place to watch sport on a big screen if you are interested in this.

Villamartin Plaza is not very Spanish.  It is largely frequented by English, Irish,  German and Dutch tourists and this is reflected in the style of the bars and restaurants. There is, however, a great choice here – and it is only “round the corner”.
